Hi, I'm Kira Pfeifle!
I’m a fine art and commercial photographer based in the Richmond, VA area, specializing in nature, still life, product and food photography. My photography journey began in high school, and I quickly found that nature and fine art photography were a natural fit for me. As an introvert, I’ve always been drawn to the quiet solitude of nature, where I can connect with the world in a creative and peaceful way.
I’ve long admired the work of photographers like Ansel Adams, Walker Evans, and Peter Lik. Adams’ breathtaking landscapes, Evans’ evocative photographs—especially his iconic A Graveyard and Steel Mill in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania—and Lik’s contemporary approach to nature photography have all deeply inspired me. Evans’ ability to capture the contrast between industrial landscapes and natural elements, as seen in this photograph, resonates with my own appreciation for the intersection of nature and the human-made world. Whether I’m photographing the serene outdoors or capturing the artistry behind a commercial product, I strive to create images that evoke emotion and showcase the world’s intricate details. My work spans fine art and commercial photography, including product and food photography. Growing up with a love for fashion and food magazines like VegNews and Vogue, I developed an interest in the artistry behind product photography and commercial advertisements. Though I’m still in the process of building my commercial portfolio, I’m excited about the opportunity to collaborate with brands and businesses to create compelling imagery that tells their story.
My Creative Process
The concept behind a photograph drives my creative process. For nature and still life photography, I often prefer working with natural light to highlight the subject’s beauty in an organic way. In commercial and fine art photography, I adjust my lighting approach depending on the product and message that needs to be conveyed. Whether using natural or artificial light, my goal is to create photographs that truly reflect the essence of the subject and bring its story to life.
What Inspires My Work
Concept and design are the primary drivers of my photography. I’m inspired by how a subject’s story and message can be told through visual composition, and the creative process of translating that vision into a photograph. For personal projects, I often draw inspiration from what’s happening in my life, the seasons, or just a fleeting moment that sparks an idea. When working with clients, I’m eager to collaborate and help bring their concepts to life through thoughtful, meaningful imagery.
What I Love Most About Photography
The creativity that photography allows is what excites me most. In commercial work, the challenge of conceptualizing and capturing a product in a visually compelling way is both rewarding and fulfilling. In nature photography, I’m constantly inspired by the beauty and simplicity of the natural world—whether it’s the play of light over mountains or the small details of a single leaf.
What You Can Expect from My Work
While I’m in the process of building my commercial portfolio, you can still expect the same dedication and quality in my work as I do for my fine art photography. I’m passionate about working with brands, businesses, and individuals who are looking for unique, high-quality imagery that communicates their message. Whether it’s product photography or artistic still life, I’m committed to collaborating with clients to create the best visual representation for their needs.
What Makes My Photography Unique
What makes my photography stand out is my focus on the details—whether it’s the textures of nature, the composition of a still life, or the artistry in a product shot. My approach combines technical skill with a deep appreciation for artistry, creating images that are not only visually striking but also emotionally resonant.
